Sell More, Lose Less Working Group Meeting - Copenhagen - June 19 / 20 2019

Hosted by Microsoft at their Innovation Centre in Lyngby, Copenhagen, the two days kicked off with a talk from Microsoft on the future of retail, including updates on the use of AI to deliver new shopping experiences plus an overview of their innovation lab including a preview of their Intelligence Kiosk. The group then visited local stores Bahne and Fotex. This was followed by an update on the problem of reusable transport units in retail, and the opportunity for retailers to reduce losses estimated at over €500 million every year. A network BBQ on the patio, on a wonderful summer evening rounded off the day. Day 2 started with a dive into data, with David Waters from RI bringing to life the world of decision science with real world examples. Dyson then followed with a presentation on their new global dashboard and a case study on how to avoid fraud issues with Paypal Credit. Closing out the morning was a presentation from Rob Borsch of Genetec on how video and POS data can be combined to provide the critical few exception alerts. The afternoon started with a presentation on the learnings from phase 1 of the Inventory Record Inaccuracy research and ideas for Phase 2. Finally, Mirela from Duracell shared their perspective on collaboration with retailers on batter shrink, and plans to support retailers work at simplifying the category. Adrian presented the research plan for video and collected some initial data, this research will be presented at the Jan 21st & 22nd 2020 video workshop. Colin presented updates on SCO research and the DC Pick Accuracy Research, retailers are invited to participate. The next working group meeting will be on Oct 2nd and 3rd - location TBC
